Standard Charter - Martin Scholler
2012 January
In the Autumn of last year TBWA commissioned portrait photographer Martin Scholler to shoot a series of images for their 2011 priority banking campaign. TBWA were aiming to create a campaign which had a premium feel to it and conveyed the tone of a luxury brand hence Martin's photography treatment used a classic, canvas painted background -- inspired by one of his all-time favorite photographers, Irving Penn. By creating a timeless, simple set, the viewer is drawn to focus on the subject's personalities. All production was handled by Bloc with talent casted out of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing while the campaign was styled by Bloc represented stylist Julie Ragolia.

Martin, a new signing for Bloc worked as an assistant to Annie Leibovitz from 1993 to 1996. He advanced as a freelance photographer producing portraits of people he met on the street. The work gained recognition for its strong visual impact and, from 1998 on, his work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Esquire, GQ, Entertainment Weekly, Vouge, Vanity Fair, and W among others. Schoeller joined Richard Avedon as a contributing portrait photographer at The New Yorker in 1999, where he continues to produce some of his award-winning images.

Of special interest is his incredible close up series where the viewer is bought eye to eye with some of the most recognizable faces along with the anonymous. To see his entire body of work check out the bloc site.

adidas Jet Li - Zach Gold
2011 November
For the 2011 Jet Li Wu Ji campaign adidas and TBWA commisioned photographer Zach Gold to shoot 4 images for the Wu Ji line. Wu Ji is a line created by adidas in partnership with Jet Li hence this campaign aimed to focus on the remarkable life he has led where at every stage, in every chapter, his inspiration has become deeper and more meaningful.

The first milestone focused upon was the 1975 National Wu Shu competition which Jet took first place in at the age of 12 and the second being the Shaolin Temple film, Jet's first major production. The campaign was shot in studio in Beijing with sets being built which aimed to replicate Jet's 1975 Wu Shu training space and and the Shaolin Temple film set. Zach's treatment gave the images a dated finish which gave the imagery a 1970s look and feel.
